#NYFW: Musicians Make Their Marks

Models aren't the only ones trying to impress the world with their style during New York Fashion Week.  Plenty of artists also take time to walk the streets of the high fashion city and attend the most desirable shows.  Nicki Minaj turned up to the Alexander Wang show in something quite simple and understated - not her usual ensemble - while Rihanna made sure to make a statement with her designer raincoat.

Though many people may just be interested in the attention and the events, I think it is the most interesting when musicians use NYFW and fashion in general to experiment with it as an art form.  What you wear to an awards show, for a day at home, or anytime can really be a reflection of your personality, and therefore can also help or hurt how you define yourself.

Though not always the best example for PR or marketing yourself, one artist taking advantage of the opportunities NYFW offers is Miley Cyrus.  Venturing into the world of visual art, Cyrus has made a collection of art entitled "Dirty Hippie" that will be on display at Jeremy Scott's show this week.  Supposedly a lot of her motivation to create this came from her new "life goal" to "not die a pop pop dumb dumb."  By channeling all of her energy resulting from so much bad luck earlier in the year, she went on to create this visual art exhibit.  Whether the show will help change the public's opinion of Cyrus remains to be seen - but we hope for the best and that it will help her gain respect as an artist.
